Our Timber Frame Build Process
At Texas Timber Frames, we understand that our service is as important as our product. A timber frame is not just a beautiful finished space, it’s an experience and a story to share for generations. Whether building a poolside pergola or a family residence, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
Step 1: Budgeting & Frame Design
We begin all projects by defining what we get to help you create. There is no such thing as calling too early. Napkin sketch or construction documents, we can assist you with any preliminary questions, planning or budgeting. We often work through many preconstruction options and 3D rendered proposals to find the best timber solution for your project.
Step 2: Detailing & Engineering
Once our scope is clear, we develop a virtual 3D model as our first step in production to make sure every part of the frame is analyzed and detailed. We use this as our tool to communicate final proportions with our clients, coordinate dimensions with contracting partners, sequence construction with our installers and resolve any unanswered particulars. The end result is a comprehensive set of timber frame drawings which include an engineer’s stamp for all sizes and connections. This method of diligence allows us to ensure the accuracy and quality that Texas Timber Frames is known for.
Step 3: Procurement
Upon builder and owner approvals of our timber production drawings, we work with our many partners to source and provide you with the best quality materials available. Our timbers are cut from premier fiber and specified to be of the highest grades on the market. It is critical to our work that our materials are on par with our craft, and a timber framers standard is second to none
Step 4: Prefabrication & Hand Work
With material landed and frame delivery scheduled, we blend timeless techniques and modern technology to precut all of our frames in our 50,000 square foot facility. Special timber CNC machinery carves each member and the wood joinery directly from our fabrication model with exact precision. This is followed by careful hand chiseling, hand finishing and final clean up from our experienced, highly skilled carpenters. Optimization of the best of both worlds allows us to meet the timelines and scale of today without sacrifice of the lineage of craft we carry on.
Step 5: Assembly & Installation
If requested, we can install or consult the installation of your timber frame for you as well. We are proud to support our own in-house installation crews who can travel anywhere to guarantee the assembly of your frame is executed safely and correctly. This is always a memorable event, and like the community raisings of the past, one we relish to be a part of with our clients.
